My principal research topic at this time is self-timed systems. I have recently done some work on identifying transistors in logic circuit implementations that can be minimized with no penalty, thereby reducing power dissipation and area, while increasing speed. More recently I have been exploring methods for designing asynchronous sequential circuits with critical races that can be defeated via the use of delays, I am also working on the optimizing of tree realizations of large AND- and OR-gates. Other recent work has been on self-timed implementations of iterative functions, the most important examples being binary adders and comparators.
Another general area of considerable interest to me is technology and society. I am involved here with the IEEE as a member of the Board of Governors of the IEEE Society on Social Implications of Technology.
