How many photographs are needed for vignetting estimation?

We estimated vignetting with different numbers of randomly chosen images, and for robustness averaged results from five different runs.

Here we show the variation with the number of images, of the RMS and mean absolute errors in estimating vignetting for one lens setting each of three camera models. We found that approximately 3000 photographs are needed to get estimation errors of around 2%.
