Photomosey

Photomosey came about as a result of my fascination with photomosaics and my discovery of the Python programming language. I had wanted to do some projects with photomosaics for a while, but I found it too cumbersome to implement anything in C/C++. When I discovered Python and the Python Imaging Library, I was able to implement a photomosaic’er very quickly. Me and my girlfriend, Stephanie, decided to use the code to make a Christmas Card, and we thought it would be really cool if it included some of the photomicrographs from “Snowflake” Bentley. We found a digital archive of Bentley’s work online (here), and we used his beautiful snowflake photos to create the portrait you see above. I named the program Photomosey, and made the source available for anyone to download and use here.
