Answers

  1. Where is the course webpage?
The webpage is located at: http://www1.cs.columbia.edu/~locasto/teaching/f2005/coms1003/index.html
  2. Should I take 1003 or 1004?
Usually CS majors take 1004, but 1003 is an acceptable replacement and majors may consider it if they already know enough Java to get along in the core classes that use it. This class gives a basis in C for courses like 4118, 4119, 4180, etc. The population of this course usually includes in large part engineering majors of various sub-disciplines.
  3. I am having trouble registering for the course, what should I do?
Make sure you do not have any holds on your account. Talk to your advisor and contact the registrar. I do not handle registration. I will be happy to sign an add/drop form if need be.
  4. What's up with my class participation grade?
At the start of the semester, you may imagine that your class participation grade seems artificially low. It is. It is a cumulative grade and should increase in value during the semester (provided that you fulfill the requirements for the various portions of it).
