Mini-homework 1

The purposes of this homework are:
1.  To get you set up for and acquainted with WAVES (the speech analysis software we'll be using).
Jennifer will email you all in turn to make arrangements for setting you up for this. When we've got you set up, I'll let you know which directory the files for HMK 1 reside in (I don't want to post this on the web for security reasons). I mentioned in class that I will set up the files so that you can look at them over the web from anywhere -- but on second thought, since the whole purpose of the homework is to get you set up for and acquainted with the WAVES program itself, I think it'll be best to just wait until you're set up to do the homework using that interface ....
2.  To get you used to "reading" speech waveforms and looking at F0 contours with segmental perturbations.

Open up sound and associated F0 files of utterances <whatcity1> and <hotel> in waves using the script "showf0". Practice playing regions of the file, zooming in/out, aligning windows, and looking at segmental perturbation effects.

For help in waves, see tutorial webpages "controlling volume", "mouse buttons", etc.
