Recommended Games

As most of you know, it’s easy to fall into a gameplay rut and play only games in your favorite genre or by your favorite manufacturer. This list (.doc format) provides a list of some high-quality, profoundly entertaining games that we think game designers can learn from.

The EGGPLANT Lab
The EGGPLANT (Educational Games Group: Play, Language, Avatars, Narrative, and Technology) Lab is a destination for studying games and play. It has a wide variety of resources, including PCs, consoles and handheld gaming devices, and a library of games in various media.

EGGPLANT Lab is at 50A Thorndike Hall, in Teacher's College (120th Street between Broadway and Amsterdam Avenue). The lab hours have not been set yet for this semester. Check back here in a few weeks.

If the lab is open at other times, you can come in and play games with lab staff permission, but you may be asked to play quietly or vacate the lab on short notice. Lab is open to Columbia students, and preference for use of equipment is given to TC students, followed by students enrolled in games classes.

Games Club
Columbia actually has a Game Club where students get together every week to chill and play boardgames. Time and date are still TBD though, check back here for more info in there future.
